Plates

I will be making a lot more plates - I am surprised at how simple it is to design and create with slabs. Once you understand that clay has a memory and you can't man-handle it.

Shop Update - Maybe?

Oh and Jillian? Your castle will soon have its own turret. If I like the glaze. I am picky.

Guilt or Pleasure?

I love the way walking the dogs three miles makes me feel. Righteous, relaxed, flexible, less sore from living at a desk during the week.

But I love Saturday morning and saying, "the heck with it" too. If the dogs can hold it until 7:30a (and they usually do) and I have nothing to clean up it adds to the joy!

Now on to the work - my favorite place for remotes - Northern Tool! And then a mad rush to the art studio to see if I can get an hour and a half of glazing and burnishing in. Maybe I can get a good mold started.

The Battle

I have two brown turkey fig trees and this year I covered them over winter so they both produced like crazy. I made eye of the round beef roast with figs, merlot, carrots, and onions; tenderloin with figs; I ate fresh figs like a pig, and even dried figs - thanks Mom for the advice - stove at a low temp for a long time. And the birds have eaten half a dozen right off the tree.

Unlike other fruits they eat the WHOLE thing. I can forgive them this far easier than when they bite (one damn bite) all the cherries.

I Need a Chant

When I see Escalades and Explorers idling for 15 minutes to a half hour while Buffy and Chip do their homework in the backseat while scarfing down their frosted pop tarts - when no one lives more than 6 blocks from the bus stop in this community.

You're raising a herd of selfish, entitled consumers - not thoughtful people.

Beautiful Morning

We (my across the street neighbors who I love so much I'd like to adopt them) and I put this pond in this summer and it delights us all! I took the time to stop and feed the guys this morning even though I am running behind. They make me happy.

You've gotta love a job that lets you get in when you want and leave when you need to as long as the work gets done. I slept in until 6 this morning so three miles made it after 7:30 when we got back to the house. Fed the fish and made a wonderful low-carb egg, peppers, salsa and cheddar burrito to go with the blueberry, mango, strawberry, papaya, banana, greek yogurt smoothie. The hot black coffee helps prevent smoothie headache.

I'd post a pic of the burrito but I ate it.

Love this One

I bought a bunch of different daylilies last year and here's one of my favorites.

Unfortunately, the deer love them too. Did you know deer repellent has a smell like rotten eggs?

I'd pass.

Releaf in Sight

I don't hate summer - in fact I love gardening and not having to worry about what to wear when the dogs walk me three miles every morning. I do hate heat and humidity which we have here in mass quantities. Seeing these this week, and having a couple of mornings when the hoodie came in handy - for more than pockets full of poo bags - has made me very happy.

Goal Course Toad Find

Found a bigger guy last week between 11 and 12 and brought him home to the back garden. This smaller toadling gets to live in his own toad house in the front garden. Neither one of them christened me - but they squeak as they warm up! Oddly they don't seem eager to leave my hand once it opens. Before I open it they do want "DOWN!"

Boris is uninterested but Lexi wants to play with them.

Well, Hi There Y'all

Life as a single, stubborn, creative woman has its challenges. Recently I've decided that I need to work towards working for myself.

Thanks to Shreve, Allison, Jillian, JJ (Rosy) and all the potters at Sertoma who've encouraged me and loved my work.

If you've been in bondage to a corporation you know what I mean when I say that even if you're doing creative work, it doesn't belong to you and you often don't get the credit for it.

THIS is MINE:
